Football is a game of luck, but at the same time, bad luck can also follow you even if it is a day you have been waiting for all your career things can dismally go wrong.
Scores of fans were left disappointed when Ghanaian rising star Mohammed Kudus had to be substituted six minutes into arguably the biggest game of his career in the UEFA Champions League against Liverpool at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Wednesday night.
Kudus has been a revelation since making a move on a five-year deal from Denmark to the Netherlands in July.
In his first three games, the attacker has netted one goal and assisted a further three strikes for Ajax this season and he was fresh from a scintillating performance against Hereenveeen over the weekend as Ajax won 5-1 on the day before their big game against the former European Champions at home.
The 20-year-old started the game as the arrowhead playing in a false nine role alongside Dusan Tadic and David Neres upfront.
Kudus had enjoyed a good start to the game displaying neat and tidy touches in the middle of the park, However, early pressure applied by Kudus on Fabinho led to a knee-to-knee collision which Ajax’s number 20 came off worse from.
Quincy Promes replaced Kudus who couldn’t continue the game despite trying to shake the injury off.
FARPost caught up with the player to hear how bad the injury is and how it felt to have to walk off on a night like that.
Judging by his reaction it was clear that he was very frustrated. “Honestly I was hurt I mean I was feeling good and I was in top form coming into the game. We will take it like it is and move forward, I was really disappointed,” said Kudus.
It is yet to be known the full extent of the injury and how long the Ghanaian will be kept on the sidelines, but coach Erik Ten Hag will be hoping his new talisman is able to return soon enough to continue with the form he has shown in recent times.
Ajax lost the game on the day and here are the rest of the results from matchday one on Wednesday.
