Banyana Banyana star Nothando Vilakazi is back on the market after leaving Spanish side EDF Logroño Femenino and the defender has expressed her desire to remain in Spain.
Vilakazi, affectionately known as ‘Vivo’ is optimistic about signing for another European club despite only playing a handful of matches at EDF Logroño last season.
The experienced defender suffered a hamstring injury in her first campaign in Spain, featuring in only seven matches including one cup semi-final game the entire season.
“My season was not really that good because of the injuries. The injuries prevented me from having a good season. I would have had a great season. The last three matches I played, I did very well. Even the coach told me that I did very well,” said Vilakazi as quoted by Diski Queenz.
“But I learned a lot of things in my first season, I experienced different things that happen in the league in Spain. The style of football is different from how we play as South Africans.”
“If I can get another opportunity to return, I will grab it with both hands. I now know their style of play, so it won’t be a surprise or struggle. My agent is already looking for opportunities for me.”
Vilakazi added: “I would like to stay in Spain but move to a new team. I think my chances of playing in another professional league are much better than before now that I have been exposed (to the Primera).
“But playing in the World Cup with Banyana was the biggest platform for me to get spotted,” she concluded.
