On Wednesday night, South African winger Gift Links continued his rich vein of form for AGF Aarhus in Denmark.
The 22-year-old was awarded yet another Man of the Match accolade in Aarhus’s 1-0 win over Horsens in the Danish Cup.
Links played 80 minutes in the game as Aarhus advanced to the quarter final stage of the competition. The Danish club has been playing very well this season defeating prominent clubs like Brondby IF and sit in third position on the log with 21 points from 12 games played so far.
This is Links’ third consecutive Man of the Match award after he already won it against Horsens (in the league) and Brondby the game before that.
The Platinum Stars product has hit the ground running and he feels these accolades have boosted his confidence.
“I’m gaining a lot of confidence game by game now. I’ve settled in pretty well now and I look forward to every game with enthusiasm and focus. I could have scored and assisted last night, but it was not meant to be,” he told this publication.
Moving to Denmark was not as easy as it seems for the attacker as he struggled to settle in Scandinavia after moving from Cape Town City in August 2019, but coach David Nielsen has shown a lot of belief in the South African youth international over the past few months.
Aarhus have lost only three of their 12 league games and it’s thanks to the collective team approach that Nielsen has emphasized for games with wingers required to track back to assist the team defend when they don’t have the ball.
These tactics have helped Links improve his defensive skills.
On Sunday the Danish club takes on AaB Aalborg in the Superliga and the former Cape Town City star will hope to make a difference for AGF Aarhus.
