Edouard Mendy is very pleased to win the Uefa Goalkeeper of the Year award.
The Senegal shot-stopper won the prestigious accolade at the annual Uefa awards held on Thursday night.
Mendy helped Chelsea clinch the Champions League trophy on his first season with the London club. He joined Chelsea from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes and immediately became the club’s number one goalkeeper.
His Chelsea teammates N’golo Kante and Jorgihno also won big with Kante being named the Midfielder of the Season while Jorgihno walked away with the Player of the Year award.
German technician Thomas Tuchel was awarded the Coach of the Season award after guiding the Blues to their second European triumph in history.
Mendy took to social media to express his appreciation for all the wonderful things that have been happening in his career.
“I have a very special feeling…I am proud and honoured to win this award.
“I want to share it with all my teammates, all the staff, my coach, all the people who work behind the scenes to make the club grow, and with my family.
“Congratulations to Jorginho for winning the best player award, to N’Golo Kante for being the best midfielder of the season, and congratulations to the coach, Thomas Tuchel, for being elected the best in his category.
“Now it’s all about keeping working hard, being consistent, and winning more titles.”
Teams also found out who will be their Champions League group stage opponents and Chelsea will face Juventus, Zenit and Swedish giants Malmo in this year’s competition.
