With Portuguese top flight football set to resume at the beginning of June, FARPost has caught up with Belensenses’s South African central defender Thibang Phete who shared his excitement and being back training again after the league was stopped in March due to the Covid-19 virus.
Phete explains how things have been in training as they prepare to resume the season.
“Yes, I am very excited and happy to be back . It’s a difficult situation we are all in we are training separately and don’t spend much time together as a team,” he said.
“We can’t make contact and all our games are going to played behind closed doors so it’s really difficult, but it’s very important for many of us to be back,” said Phete.
The 26-year-old had picked up several Man of the Match awards at the beginning of 2020 with his impressive displays at the heart of the defence and he will hope to continue where he left off.
“I would like to continue where I left off as an individual as well as my team. Yes it’s true I was going through a good form of games the team was also doing good we were four games unbeaten, but everything is in the past now the momentum was disrupted so all I can do now is work hard again and keep the focus then things will happened naturally. As a team we are focused on doing well game by game and improving ourselves individually because if we do that everything will go our way on the log standings,” he added.
Belenenses are currently sitting on 13th spot on the log with 26 points after 24 games, 10 points clear off the relegation spot and Phete will be hoping to help the club push up the log.
