One of the players who has been so consistent in his career since moving to Europe aged just 18 is Lebogang Phiri.
Born in Alexandra, Johannesburg, Phiri has been proving his worth at the highest level for the past seven years and the Guingamp midfield maestro still continues to hit the gears in Europe.
Phiri, however, has not had a good opportunity to prove himself in the colours of Bafana Bafana having missed out in the recent Africa Cup of Nations.
But now that the 24-year-old was in coach Molefi Ntseki’s squad, there could be light at the end of the tunnel for him.
He would welcome the opportunity to establish himself on the international stage since he’s been doing well at club level.
Phiri moved to Denmark as an unknown teenager but he quickly settled in the Scandinavian league playing for one of Denmark’s biggest club Brondby IF who have such a great history and have won the Danish league on many occasions.
The move to one of Europe’s top five leagues joining newly relegated French Ligue 2 side Guingamp as a free agent in May 2017 followed.
He signed a 4-year deal which would keep him at the club until 2021.
Perhaps by then he would have established himself in national colours.
