Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer has returned to full training with the rest of the AC Milan squad.
The 23-year-old has been sidelined for months with a muscle strain, but the good news is that the midfielder is back in full training with the squad now.
Bennacer started the season very well with the Rossoneri.
It has been a good transition for the Arsenal product who joined the Italian giants in 2019 from Empoli. He scored two goals in 76 appearances for Empoli before taking the next step in his career.
In 2019, he was part of the Algerian squad that won the Afcon in Egypt. He is part of a group of players who were born in France to Algerian parents and opted to represent the North African nation instead of their country of birth.
Riyad Mahrez and Sofiane Feghouli are some of the notable names who have also went through the same process.
Bennacer has played 10 Serie A games this season and he will hope to get back into the match day squad as the log leaders prepare to take on Spezia on Saturday. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ante Rebic each found the back of the net twice to guide Milan to a 4-0 victory against Crotone last Sunday.
It remains tight at the top of the Serie A table with a nine-point gap separating the top five who are all in the race for this year’s Scudetto.
Juventus’ dominance in Italy is under threat with Inter and AC Milan leading the race at the top of the standings. The Old Lady has dominated the domestic scene for the past nine years.
Ironically, the man at the helm is manager Andrea Pirlo, whose genius on the pitch helped initiate the era of success that also saw them win the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup four times each, and reach two Champions League finals in the past nine years.
Stefano Pioli will be pleased to welcome the midfielder to his squad. He is a dynamic, tenacious, energetic, and versatile left-footed player who is capable of playing in a number of roles in midfield. Bennacer has been used as a deep-lying midfielder, a holding midfielder and attacking midfielder.
