Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez has revealed that it was his ‘dream’ to play alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona last season.
However, the 23-year-old striker says he is now committed to life in Italy at San Siro as he is even prepared to sign a new contract in Milan.
Martinez had openly admitted that it was a lifelong ambition to play for Barca, and in an interview with Sportweek, the Argentine stated that it was his dream to take to the field alongside the magical Messi.
“It was a big dream for me. It’s amazing to play with him [Messi, he is the best player in the world, and I am lucky enough to play with him in the national team. He is an inspiration for young players,” said Martinez.
“I am happy at Inter; Milan is a great city. My agent and the club are talking, and I am calm. I only want to give everything for Inter, then we’ll reach an agreement.”
Martinez has struck up an amazing partnership with fellow striker Romelu Lukaku, and he had only praise for the Belgian hitman.
“I fell well with him, on and off the pitch. He is such a nice guy, he speaks eight languages and it’s important in a team like ours,” he added.
“He is so humble too; his history is similar to mine. We come from nothing; we understand each other.”
