Banyana Banyana attacking midfielder Linda Motlhalo scored a late winner to hand Djurgardens IF a 2-1 victory over Vittsjo GIK on Wednesday evening in a Swedish Damallsvenskan encounter at Stockholm Olympic Stadium.
In what was Djurgardens’ second home game of the season, Motlhalo found the back of the net in the 85th minute to seal all the three points for her new side.
“I was so happy, I couldn’t even celebrate because I don’t know how I felt, it was just amazing,” said Motlhalo after Djurgardens secured their first win in four matches and moved up to eighth on the log standings with four points.
“I am glad that we played until the last minute, we played as a team, we fought as a team until the last minute, so I am really happy,” added the Banyana international, also known as the ‘Randfontein Ronaldinho’.
The 22-year-old midfielder has now netted three goals in three matches for Djurgardens as she had a dream start in Sweden, scoring a brace on debut against AIK in the Swedish Women’s in January a few days after arriving from Chinese side, Beijing BG Phoenix.
“We had so many chances and I think this team is looking really well and I think in our upcoming games we are going to score a lot of goals, I have confidence in this team,” concluded Motlhalo.
Djurgardens will now turn their attention to Sunday’s league encounter away to leaders Goteborg FC and Motlhalo will be looking to continue her good run of form.
