Polokwane City head coach Clinton Larsen has explained why recent loanee Kabelo Mahlasela was rushed into the team against Baroka even though he had one training session before the match.
The 28-year-old joined Rise and Shine on loan from Kaizer Chiefs on Friday and was thrown into the deep end during their 1-0 defeat in the Polokwane derby on Saturday.
“We all know he is a quality player and what he can bring to the team that’s why the moment we could get him signed it wasn’t rocket science we had to put him straight into the team,” said Larsen.
“We know he is not match fit and the only way he is going to get match fit is to put him on the park so we will continue to give him the minutes to get him up to speed and I think once he’s got 3 to 4 games behind him he will be flying again.”
Larsen worked with Mahlasela at Bloemfontein Celtic during the 2015/16 season.
“He is my ex player I have coached him before and like I said the players we want to bring into the club are players who are going to add lots of value so he is one of those and hopefully we will add a few more,” he said.
Mahlasela had not made any appearance at Chiefs this season under Coach Ernst Middendorp prior his move to Limpopo.
