South Africa’s U23 men’s national team head coach David Notoane admits his side were drawn in a tough group for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.
The draw took place virtually on Wednesday in Switzerland. Amaglug-glug were drawn in Group A alongside Japan, Mexico and France.
This prestigious tournament is set to run from July 22 to August 8.
“We now know the identity of our opponents. It is a tough draw but a good draw and I am very excited,” said Notoane.
Notoane’s boys will take on hosts Japan on 22 July at the Tokyo Stadium, before going head-to-head with France at Saitama stadium three days later. The side will then wrap up their group stage matches against Mexico at the Sapporo Dome on the 28th of July.
The 52-year-old mentor stated that it was a plus for Amaglug-glug to be playing the opening game with the hosts, Japan.
“This is a group in which preparations are critical. If we apply ourselves fully, we can get to the knock-out stages,” he concludes.
