In the last day of the recent transfer window the South African football fraternity learnt that Banyana Banyana midfielder Refiloe ‘Fifi’ Jane has completed what many termed the greatest ever move by a South African female footballer.
She moved to Italian giants AC Milan from Australian A league side Canberra united.
Jane had also made history with another South African international Rhoda Mulaudzi when they became the first South African female footballers to join an Australian top division club.
So it would seem the midfielder is destined for big things in her career.
Jane has started life very well in San Siro having started and completed all three of her club’s games in Serie A this season and with the coach Maurizio Ganz a big admirer of the 27-year-old midfielder.
In a recent interview with the press Jane was asked if she has any player that she admired and the South African national team vice- captain happily admitted that she is a big admirer of AC Milan legend Genaro Gattuso saying, “I see myself in Gattuso – a very physical player. I still have to learn a lot and adapt to the Italian game, but I choose Gattuso because he has always put passion and heart into Milan.”
Jane is the first and only African to play for Milan’s Women’s team.
