Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele believes his team has a shot at winning the Caf Confederation Cup as they are playing confidently and says there will be no excuses if they fail to beat Nigerian giants Enyimba at Orlando Stadium this evening (18:00) in a group stage clash.
Jele is adamant that Pirates’ current generation of players have what it takes as they go in search of their first win of group A following a goalless draw against ES Setif in Ghana in their opening encounter last Sunday.
‘The Buccaneers’ lost in the Confed Cup final back in 2015 against Tunisian giants Étoile du Sahel and Jele, who was part of that team is optimistic that the Josef Zinnbauer team can better the class of 2015.
“I see a lot of potential in this team that we have. The way we play, the effort that we put in on the field, [it’s amazing]. We work for one another and it’s possible we can reach [the final again] and get the cup as well. We’ve got a good squad,” said Jele.
“We’re looking forward to make history. For me, this competition is very important for the team. Orlando Pirates is a big brand and that means we must always compete at the higher level. We’re motivated and we want to get the result against Enyimba.”
Pirates assistant coach Fadlu Davids echoed his captain and said winning at home in continental competitions is important.
“We have analysed Enyimba in detail in terms of their playing style, structure and profiling their players. We have to be prepared for everything on Wednesday,” said Davids.
“We want three points, that is what we are fighting for. We’re going for the win. Despite any opponent that comes to Orlando Stadium, our target is clear.”
