AmaZulu FC goalkeeper coach Moeneeb Josephs has revealed that the team’s number one goalkeeper Veli Mothwa deserves better.
Mothwa has soared to greatness with an improved performance under the tutelage of Josephs, but the former Ajax Cape Town shotstopper has credited the the player for his commitment.
Josephs is of the view that Mothwa can still improve to be claim the Bafana Bafana number one jersey.
“For Veli, if he wants to be number one, he must show it here. I had the same problem when I was at national team, unfortunately I had Itumeleng Khune to compete with and he was unbelievable.”
“But also we need to look at it, he’s got this position because he is playing, he is doing well, he is a good player.”
“That’s how I motivate Veli, just be yourself, enjoy the game, if you not gonna enjoy the game you are not gonna be your best.”
“If you gonna be nervous you are not gonna be your best, but Veli I don’t think he is national team material, I think he is more than that.”
“He comes to training everyday wanting to learn, if you want to learn you always wanna improve and if your cup is full you gonna stay static.”
“To be honest there is nothing much I did, I just make him believe he belongs here, if you believe you belong here my friend, anything is possible.”
“Honestly I was hoping he makes a mistake last season so that he can get the feeling but he had such a good run. That means he was always switched on, he believed even more on his ability.”
“When my keepers make mistakes, I celebrate because now I know they are going to learn how to deal with issues like that.”
“Goalkeeping is difficult position, you can’t just rotate, for us it’s about confidence so Veli has been doing well.”
“There are other young goalkeepers knocking on the door, when the other goalkeepers grow in confidence it contributes to Veli to stay focused keep working hard,” explained Josephs.
