Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is pleased with Diogo Jota’s in-form performance since he arrived at the club in the summer transfer window.
This comes after his side thrashed Atalanta FC 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League group stages encounter on Tuesday night. Jota was the man of the moment as he scored his first Champions League hat-trick in Liverpool colours. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also registered their names on the score sheet.
The Reds completed the signing of the Portugal international from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a long-term contract.
Klopp stated that Jota’s amazing form has not given him a headache when it comes to selecting his three striking force.
“Good performances never give me a headache. The decision was clear and made sense to use Diogo because of the way Atalanta plays and defends the skill set of Diogo helps,” Klopp said.
“I’ve been long enough in this business to see when another team is playing good football and can cause any team problems. That didn’t change because of the game.”
Jota repaid his mentor’s faith with a stellar performance as Klopp opted to start with him over Roberto Firmino in the front.
The German mentor further said that Jota played a super game and he is more than happy with his boys’ performance last night.
The 23-year-old has now scored for a fourth successive match. The former Wolves striker is the only second player to score in his first two Champions League appearances for the club, after Robbie Keane in 2008, and already has more goals for the club in 2020 (seven) than Firmino (five) despite having arrived less than two months ago.
Liverpool has now opened a five-point lead in Group D, having played three games with three matches to come next.
