Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has lost his mother Elisabeth at the age of 81.
Klopp is believed to have last visited his mum on her 80th birthday, but Covid-19 restrictions stopped him from returning for the funeral which took place this week.
Elisabeth, who passed away in mid-January, had three children with Norbert Klopp after their marriage in 1960, with Jurgen the youngest sibling alongside Stefanie and Isolde.
Klopp has said: “She meant everything to me. She was a proper mum in the best sense of the word. As a believer in Christ, I know that she is now in a better place.
“Owing to these terrible times, I can’t be at the funeral, (but) as soon as circumstances allow, we’ll hold a wonderful, fitting memorial for her,” he said.
His Norbert, passed away in 2000 at the age of 66 after a short illness.
Klopp has previously revealed his regret that his dad never got to see him succeed as a manager and win the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool.
On Wednesday, Liverpool’s official Twitter account posted a picture of Klopp alongside the club’s motto: “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
