Juventus end Napoli’s six-game unbeaten run

Victor Osimhen and Kalidou Koulibaly were in action for Napoli as they lost 2-1 to defending champions Juventus on Wednesday night.

This was a much-anticipated clash between two of the biggest clubs in Italian football. Napoli came into the game unbeaten in six Serie A games, but they couldn’t continue their form against a determined Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for the home side after some good work by Federico Chiesa who set up the Portuguese international. After controlling the majority of the possession and creating a number of chances, the home side doubled their advantage with 17 minutes left on the clock thanks to a strike by Paulo Dybala.

Gennaro Gattuso’s side fought back and Osimhen won a penalty in the 90th minute of the game. Lorenzo Insigne stepped up and converted comfortably, but it was already too late as the champions took all three crucial points.

Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly played the entire game for the visitors, but couldn’t help them avoid defeat. This is a set back for Napoli who are pushing for a top four finish and a shot at next season’s Uefa Champions League.

Since returning from a head injury earlier this year, Osimhen seems to have found some good form in Italy. He has assisted a goal and scored another goal last weekend.

The striker also found the back of the net for the Nigeria national team in the recent international break.

After the defeat, Napoli sit in fifth position on the log standings with 56 points from 29 games. They are two points behind fourth-placed Atalanta and three points behind Juventus who are in third spot.

Gattuso’s side will now shift their focus to Sunday’s league clash with Sampdoria as they look to return to winning ways.
