Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Joseph Kamwendo scored in his testimonial match which saw his side beat Flames Legends Select 3-2 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Malawi, on Saturday.
Former PSL and Bafana Bafana stars including Sibusiso Zuma featured for JK Select in front of a big crowd in Blantyre.
Kamwendo scored the second goal in the 35th minute after James Chilapondwa had put JK Select ahead eight minutes earlier before Elvis Kafoteka pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.
Former Free State Stars striker Jimmy Zakazaka added the second for Flames Select in the 65th minute before former AmaZulu and Nathi Lions defender Moses Chavula restored the lead.
That proved to be the winner for JK Select who featured former Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwati, Sibusiso Zuma and former Kaizer Chiefs captain and assistant coach Patrick Mabedi.
Ex-Pirates’ Tonic Chabalala, Lelo Mbele and former SuperSport and University of Pretoria striker Atusaye Nyondo started from the bench
for JK Select whereas former Black Leopards defender Peter Mponda captained Flames Select that comprised former Dynamos goalkeeper
Swadick Sanudi, ex-Bloemfontein Celtic and Leopards midfielders Dave Banda and Fischer Kondowe.
The match marked the farewell for Kamwendo who has called time on his 18-year-old professional career spread across seven clubs including Civo United, Wanderers (Malawi), Caps United (Zimbabwe), Nordsjaelland (Denmark), Pirates, Vasco da Gama (South Africa) and TP Mazembe (DRC).
