N’golo Kante is looking forward to doing battle with former teammate Riyad Mahrez this weekend.
The two stars will be on opposite sides when Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City take on Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the Uefa Champions League final at the Estadio Dragao tonight (21:00).
Both stars have played a huge role to help their clubs reach the final with Mahrez scoring a few crucial goals for City while Kante won numerous Man of the Match awards for his stellar displays in the midfield for Chelsea.
Kante and Mahrez played together at Leicester City and won the 2015/16 English Premier League title under coach Claudio Ranieri.
Speaking to UEFA.com, Kante said he has spoken to Mahrez and they are both buzzing to get going.
“We’ve spoken about it. We both realise that it’s exceptional.
“It’s taken a lot of work from before being in Ligue 2 until now, and a lot of perseverance on the pitch and in training.
“So to be playing a match like this is fantastic. But we both want to win, so we won’t be friendly on the pitch. I hope it works out for me, and he’s hoping it’ll work out for him, of course.”
Mahrez joined Leicester from Le Havre in 2014 and helped the Foxes secure promotion to the Premier League while Kante moved to the King Power Stadium ahead of the 2015/16 campaign from Caen.
Since helping Leicester win the Premier League, the duo has been on the rise in England winning the Premier League title with their respective clubs and now they are on the verge of winning the biggest club competition in Europe.
