“We know how to play big games. We know what we want and we will get what we want.”
These are the words uttered by tenacious Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande with unwavering confidence as he prepares to lead his side against Mamelodi Sundowns in what promises to be a thriller on Thursday evening at Orlando Stadium.
Katsande hailed the club’s big game character and said there’s more than enough experience to get the job done against Sundowns.
Despite their poor run of form since the restart, ‘Amakhosi’ have maintained top spot in the Absa Premiership table, 3 points clear of second-placed defending champions the ‘Brazilians’.
The two teams have already met this season with the Soweto giants getting the better of Sundowns twice.
“When we played them in the first-round people never gave us a chance‚” Katsande told the media in a pre-match online press conference on Tuesday.
“And we knew what we wanted and we knew that if we applied the tactics that the coach told us we were going to come out victorious‚ and we would have been good visitors at the capital city.
Chiefs have drawn two games, registered one win and suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bloemfontein Celtic in the PSL Bio Bubble, while on the other hand, Sundowns have only collected six games in five matches, sealing a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows with the last kick of the game on Monday.
“Going into this match‚ we know what’s at stake. We just want to try to improve‚ keep going forward‚ keep on doing well,” added Katsande.
“We know this is a big game and we are not shaken by the past few results. Our focus is on the game [against Sundowns]. We all know the importance of this game against Sundowns. We will go out there with the intention to win.”
Chiefs have been without silverware since the 2014/15 season with Sundowns winning two league titles during that time.
“We know what’s at stake. We are still in control. It’s up to us what we are going to dish in this match.
“So we just need to put our hearts in and just go and grind. And if they run 3‚000‚ we need to run 5‚000 kilometres to grind the result.
“Because the most important thing is that we really want the result‚ and we are going to work hard for it,” concluded the Chiefs captain.
