Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies forward Melinda Kgadiete says they will ‘try to hurt’ Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies when the two sides clash in a Safa National Women’s League (SNWL) encounter on Saturday at Chloorkop Ground.
The encounter is scheduled to start at 15:00.
Kgadiete was part of the Banyana Banyana 2018 Cyprus Women’s Cup Squad playing in all four matches.
“It’s gonna be tough to win against them (Sundowns Ladies) but we will do our best and try to not give them space and not allow them to come to us,” Kgadiete told FARPost.
“Sundowns is a very good team from the back to upfront. We will just focus on our game plan and try and hurt them.
“We will also try to press them on their own half,” added Kgadiete, who made her Banyana Banyana debut against Sweden in an international friendly match 2 years ago.
The ‘Brazilians’ are yet to taste defeat in the inaugural SNWL with 16 consecutive wins, top of the log standings while third-placed Celtic are 12 points adrift from the leaders.
“I think mathematically yes, (can still win the SNWL) we take each game as it comes and our focus is to get 3 points from each and every game.
In the SNWL, Kgadiete has been playing as a central midfielder rather than her usual position up front.
“I’m not sure about the goals, I think I have scored 6. I’ve been playing as a centre midfielder now so I don’t get a chance to go forward as much as I can but I try and score as much as I can.
“Most of us are senior players, which means we know what is expected of us… I just give my all when I play and hope they’ll see I’m pushing and also pull their socks up,” concluded the Celtic Ladies star.
