Atletico Madrid forward Thembi Kgatlana says she is “delighted” to bring her European experience to the Banyana Banyana squad in the Aisha Buhari Cup.
The tournament is currently taking place in Lagos, Nigeria.
Kgatlana was on the scoresheet when South Africa thrashed Ghana 3-0 in their opening Group A clash of the competition last Friday.
“It’s always good to play top teams,” said the 25-year-old frontwoman.
“We hadn’t played in a very long time and we had a couple of overseas-based players who had to join the team.
“Getting the first match like Ghana, we had to prepare and also make sure that we scored.”
The former SD Eibar striker is excited to add value to the service of the Senior Women’s national team and wants to see them going all the way to the finals of the Buhari Cup.
“Playing in Europe makes me a better player and if I get a call-up to play for the national team, I have to use my experience to help the team and score to influence the win which I did in our last game,” she says in conclusion.
Banyana’s next assignment will be against the host country Nigeria Super Falcons at the Moboloji Johnson Stadium tomorrow in what will be deemed as the remake of the 2018 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final.
