South Africa’s national U17 coach Vela Khumalo has named his final U17 squad for the COSAFA Cup that kicks off in Port Elizabeth on the 19th of November 2020.
Amajimbos start their campaign against eSwatini and the hosts will be looking for a good start. The interesting part about this tournament is that it doubles up as a 2021 U17 AFCON qualifier with the two finalists qualifying for the continental showpiece in Morocco.
South Africa is in Group A with Angola, eSwatini and Zimbabwe.
Speaking to SAFA’s official website the coach explained the challenges with selection, but he is optimistic about the possibilities moving forward.
“As you know we just recently opened amateur football and the level one regulations are still there and a lot of arrangements had to be made. When you analyze the players, you can tell that it has been a long layoff. We want to start well so we can finish in a good position,” said Khumalo.
