Amajimbos head coach Vela Khumalo says that it is too soon for his side to get excited over their 2-0 win against Eswatini in their opening encounter of the 2020 COSAFA Men’s Under-17 Championship held in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Khumalo believes that his side still have a long way to go as they aim to qualify for the 2021 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
“It’s a good start and we can only get better from here. We cannot however, get too excited,” he said in a post-match interview.
The coach insists that he’s pleased with the performance but disappointed with some of the glaring missed chances.
“We said we wanted to start well but I am concerned that we failed to convert so many chances. We played in patches which I understand but with time, the fluidity will come in,” Khumalo added.
“We should have scored at least four or five goals, and wrapped up the game in the first half. However, it tells you that it’s been long that these boys were not playing. Now that we are playing the confidence will come in and then we will get better with time.”
Amajimbos will face Zimbabwe in the second game on Saturday at Nelson Mandela Bay. The kick-off is set for 15h30 in the afternoon and you can stream live the game on Cosafa.tv.
