Khune & Baccus return ahead of Maritzburg clash


Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the return of their number one goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and Daniel Akpeyi out ahead of their Telkom Knockout clash against Maritzburg United at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

“Ahead of our trip to Nelspruit for the Telkom Knockout Cup on the weekend, Itumeleng Khune is medically fit and has joined the team in full training. Khune has been recovering from a groin injury he picked up in the game against Baroka FC in September,” confirmed Amakhosi on their official website.

Also returning from injury is the midfielder Kearyn Baccus who picked up ankle injury in Telkom Knockout Cup Round of 16 match against Cape Town City in October.

Keeper Itumeleng Khune is back to full fitness.

Young Nkosingiphile Ngcobo who has been playing for Amakhosi MDC team in terms of getting back to fitness also makes a return to the first team.

Ngcobo played ninety minutes in the Multichoice Diski Challenge Soweto Derby last Saturday.

He got injured in March in a game against SuperSport United.

Two youngsters who are currently with SA’s under 23 in Egypt for U-23 AFCON, Happy Mashiane and Siyabonga Ngezana will not be available for selection at Mbombela Stadium.

Daniel Akpeyi, who has been impressive in Chiefs’ posts, will miss the clash against Maritzburg due to suspension.

Daniel Akpeyi is suspended for the clash.

Willard Katsande and Eric Mathoho are also suspended.
