A Limpopo ABC Motsepe League match was abandoned on Friday after a player collapsed following a physical fight with an opposition kit manager.
Newly promoted side Makotopong Brazil were playing against defending champions Mikhado FC in Nzhelele, Limpopo when their player, Maphuti Mabotja, was attacked by an unnamed Mikhado official.
Mabotja was allegedly about to take a throw-in late in the match when the official started a tussle for a ball leaving him collapsed.
The match officials called off the match in the 81st minute after Makotopong Brazil refused to replace the affected player.
Speaking exclusively to FARPost.co.za, Brazil coach Kwena Moshomane confirmed the incident and said they are waiting for SAFA Limpopo on the way forward.
“The Mikhado team officials were fighting with our officials 20 minutes before the game and they beat our officials with some stones. But what we know is that they are like that, they like intimidating opponents before their matches,” said Moshomane.
“The player (Mabotja) was supposed to throw the ball you see so their official went to beat the player with a clap and then he collapsed. We are now waiting for SAFA to take a decision on the matter on whether they take it to the DC (disciplinary committee) or whatever. But so far, they have not communicated anything with us,” he said.
Efforts to solicit a comment from SAFA Limpopo were unsuccessful while Mikhado team manager Prince Manenzhe could not comment on the incident.
Mikhado are not new to controversy. Last season they finished in position 2 but went on to represent the province at the provincial play-offs after lodging a complaint against champions, Madritas FC over an unproperly registered player which led to Madritas being docked 62 points and relegated to the SAB League.
