Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp admitted it was difficult to explain how Atletico Madrid play following their UEFA Champions League exit on Wednesday night.
The Reds were beaten 3-2 at Anfield and 4-2 on aggregate in their round of 16 second leg.
Klopp seemed speechless by the result after the game, questioning Atletico’s playing style, but still insisted he was happy with Liverpool’s performance.
“I don’t understand with the quality they have the football they play. They could play proper football but they stand deep and have counter-attacks” he told reporters.
“We saw all the goals we conceded, we shouldn’t concede these kind of goals. Tonight, it is difficult to explain these goals, but it is like it is. I realise I am a really bad loser, especially when the boys put such an effort in against world-class players on the other side who defend with two rows of four. It doesn’t feel right tonight, to be honest” he added.
The defeat was Liverpool’s fourth loss in six matches in all competitions, but they remain 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
