Komphela confirms Downs move

Steve Komphela has confirmed that he has resigned from his head coach position at Golden Arrows to join Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I’ve been given an exciting opportunity to join Mamelodi Sundowns as senior coach and to work with its joint head coaches, Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena,” he wrote in his resignation letter.

Komphela had been with Abafana Bes’thende since December 2018 when he replaced Clinton Larsen, who had called it quits.

The former Bafana Bafana coach’s position of “senior coach” hasn’t been clarified yet by the Sundowns management and it’s not clear if he’s co-coach with Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena or whether he joins in as an assistant.
