Eric Tinkler was full of praise for Thabiso Kutumela who scored the only goal of the match as Maritzburg United beat Bidvest Wits on Wednesday evening at Bidvest Stadium in an Absa Premiership encounter.
“Kutu has been absolutely phenomenal this season. I think he is top of the list in terms of assists, he is just behind Judu (Judas Moseamedi) when it comes to the goals,” said Tinkler.
“But his mentality has been fantastic because he always hasn’t started but that didn’t let him down.
“He has become a team player which I don’t think he was before which has made him a far better player than he was before, so I am very happy for him,” added the Maritzburg mentor.
Kutumela has scored several crucial goals for the ‘Team of Choice’ this season, 5 of them in the league and 3 in cup competitions in 21 games in all competitions.
“He understands the reasons behind it (not starting) and its been about him looking after himself and having a positive attitude. For that he then reaps these types of rewards,” said Tinkler.
“I am very happy with the 3 points, (vs Wits) we wanted to hit that 30-point mark as soon as possible. Now we want to try and climb that table as high as we can,” concluded the ex-Orland Pirates coach.
Maritzburg will next face log leaders Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff at 18:00.
