Chippa United striker Augustine Kwem believes coach Lehlohonolo Seema’s humility is what enables him to work better and form a great relationship with the players at the club.
In a conversation with the members of the South African Football Journalists’ Association (Safja), Kwem described Chippa coach Seema as a “humble and nice person”.
Kwem had a successful debut season in the Premiership, netting eight goals across all competitions and has had a decent start to the new season with two goals and an assist to his name in five games.
“The coach is a very nice person, the personality matters like he is friendly, social. He is a coach that comes down to the players’ level to build an understanding,” said Kwem.
According to the Nigerian hitman, a person who feels appreciated will always do more than what is expected.
“When you are on the pitch and you look down the touchline you want to make that man [Seema] happy because he is like your friend, he doesn’t place himself at the bosses’ level.
“Some coaches, the communication between the players is not there hence some players are scared to come out of their shell.
“But if there’s that relationship as we have now with coach Seema when you look at the bench is like you are playing for a friend or you are playing for your brother,” added the 23-year-old Kwem, who joined the Chilli Boys from ABC Motsepe League side Sibanye FC in July 2019.
The Port Elizabeth-based outfit has been fighting relegation for the past few seasons in the top-flight, with owner Chippa Mpengesi not shy to pull the plug when it comes to coaches.
In their first five DStv Premiership matches, Chippa have only managed to register a single victory with two draws and two defeats. However, Seema insists that it was too early to start panicking and remained adamant his young team would still surprise many in the league this season.
“Our target is the top eight and we are not that far, still early beginnings but we will try and push so we can challenge for more competitions next season,” concluded Kwem.
