TS Galaxy center-forward Wayde Lekay is positive that his side can beat Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night at FNB Stadium in their DStv Premiership encounter.
Lekay recently joined the Rockets from GladAfrica Championship side, Steenberg United.
The 23-year-old managed to score a winning goal on his debut last Wednesday against AmaZulu FC at Mbombela Stadium.
The victory saw the Mpumalanga-based outfit record their first-ever win in the top division.
In an interview with TS Galaxy’s website after their game against Usuthu, Lekay expressed his gratitude to everyone who made it possible for his dream debut in the topflight league.
“I want to thank everyone at the club including the chairman for giving me the opportunity. It has always been a dream of mine to compete in topflight football. I’m ecstatic and I enjoyed the moment. The fact that I helped the team is even much better,” he said.
“I’m coming in as a new boy. I want to come and prove myself to everybody in the world. I want to help the team finish as high as possible on the log. I want the team to do well. It is our first season. Everyone is doing so well at training. My biggest goal is to help the team. I want to score as many goals as I can. I’m happy to do that.
Galaxy are currently in sixth spot on the PSL log standings with an unbeaten record, whereas Amakhosi are sitting in eighth position.
The Cape Town-born marksman is very confident that history will repeat itself on Wednesday night when they face the Soweto giants, who suffered a 3-0 defeat in the hands of their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates this past Saturday in the MTN8 first-leg semi-final.
“The fact that we are still unbeaten heading into that game against Chiefs, will give us confidence. The boys are working hard at training. As you can see today, it showed. We are not here to add numbers. We are coming here to compete. That’s what we are here to do and I’m pretty sure we can beat them,” Lekay concluded.
