Former Orlando Pirates defender and captain Lucky Lekgwathi believes Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic deserves to walk away with the 2019/20 Player of the Season award.
The double treble winning Pirates captain told FARPost that though it’s difficult to choose between Orlando Pirates striker Gabadihno Mhango and Nurkovic, he would choose the ‘Amakhosi’ striker for the award.
“You know it’s difficult to choose between Mhango and Nurkovic for the Player of the Season. But I have no doubt that Nurkovic deserves to win this one.
“You know in South Africa the players and even coaches’ study you when you are a new player and that’s why Nurkovic is not scoring more as he did when he arrived,” Lekgwathi said.
Lekgwathi added that the other thing is that the 27-year-old Serbian hitman is new to the Absa Premiership compared to Mhango who has in the past played for Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows and Bidvest Wits.
“You see for a player who is new to the PSL, he has done very well and I still believe he deserves the Player of the Season award,” Lekgwathi concluded.
Nurkovic who joined Chiefs at the start of the current season has scores 11 league goals and he is three goals behind Mhango who was leading with 14 goals before the league was suspended due to the COVID-19 Lockdown which ends on April 16.
