Lekwa City FC has won the Mpumalanga Provincial Playoffs to earn a spot in the ABC Motsepe League.
Lekwa City began their Provincial SAB Playoffs journey by thrashing Mahamba FC 2-0 in the first round of the Provincial Playoffs, thanks to a brace by Skhalo Ngwenya.
Given the club’s quality display in their first game, they went on to seal their promotion to the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League by defeating This Year FC 2-1 in the second round, with goals scored by Thabo Nhlabathi and Thabang Motloung.
“We are delighted to inform you that Lekwa City FC has won the Mpumalanga Provincial Playoffs, this simply means that (in the) 2020/2021 season, we are playing in the ABC Motsepe League,” Lekwa City stated in a statement.
“We would like to thank both teams that were in our group (Group A), Mahamba FC from Enkangala Region and This Year FC from Ehlanzeni Region. It was a very tough group, both teams were there to win it, they were both very strong, they gave us a very good run, it was never easy.”
The Mpumalanga-based outfit also appreciated all teams that were participating in Gert Sibande Stream A during the 2019/2020 season.
“Each and every game that you would play against Lekwa City FC would be like a Cup Final, you would come to play such game 120% prepared and by so doing, you prepared us to be a strong side,” said Lekwa City.
The club also expressed their gratitude towards their loyal fans who have been rallying behind the team during the good and bad times.
“You as fans and supporters were always there, we wish to thank you all, please do continue rallying behind the team, you are the owners of this team, you are Lekwa City FC, the team belongs to you, and Lekwa City FC is you.
“We are starting the new Project, the ABC Motsepe League, we need our fans and supporters to continue rallying behind the team, we know that it won’t be an easy project, but with you behind the team, the burden is not too much heavy.”
