Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League side Lekwa City FC have confirmed that they have released six regular players.
“We have decided to terminate our relationship with the following players: Mthokozisi Shabangu, Sekhoto ‘Matlaba’ Mlatu, Mzimkhulu ‘Thsasa’ Tshabalala, Nhlanhla ‘Walter’ Selepe, Nhlanhla ‘Ramsey’ Nhlapo and Lerato Matela,” read the statement.
This comes after the club’s Technical Team were advised that all the above-mentioned players went to Vrede to play a tournament just a few hours before Lekwa City’s crucial match against Witbank City Lads on Saturday, 22 May at Sakhile Stadium.
The club is fighting to survive the chop as they are currently placed on 8th in the provincial stream A log standings with 14 points after 15 games.
For them to avoid the relegation zone, they need to win their last game against FC Benfica and hope for Gembok Classic FC to defeat Witbank City Lads, who are sitting at the 7th position with 16 points from 15 outings. So, only two points separate City Lads and Lekwa FC.
The last fixtures of the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League will be played on Wednesday, 26 May 2021.
