City, SuperSport fail to impress in dull goalless draw

Cape Town City and SuperSport United started off their 2021/22 DStv Premiership season with a dull goalless draw at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday evening.

It was a special day for Bradley ‘Surprise’ Ralani, who was making his 100th appearance for the club. But the man from Kimberly, Northern Cape, won’t be too pleased with the way his team started off the season.

Although it was a see-saw affair, the visitors enjoyed a greater share of chances especially in the second half, but just could not beat newly signed goalkeeper Hugo Marques.

The Angolan international denied Sipho Mbule and Bradley Grobler in quick succession early in the second half. At the other end of action, Zimbabwe youth international Douglas Mapfumo had a frustrating PSL debut, struggling to assert himself.

City were without Thabo Nodada, who is reportedly nursing an injury.
