South African international Gift Links has been nominated for the Danish Superliga Player of the Month award in Denmark.
The 22-year-old attacker has been in fine form for AGF Aarhus for the past three weeks in the Danish top flight and the two Man of the Match awards he received for scoring three goals in three games have earned him recognition in the Scandinavian country.
After starting the season well playing as a regular, he struggled to break his duck. Eventually, the first goal came against giants Brondby IF in a very crucial 2-1 win for Aarhus. The second came a week later as they defeated Horsens in another 2-1 win, but this time away from home. Links earned the nomination when he scored against Aab in the club’s last game of 2020 before the league goes into the winter break.
FC Midtylland’s Alexander Scholz and Randers FC defender Erik Marxen are the two other players in the entire division who are nominated for the award.
It’s been just over a year since he made a move from Cape Town City, but the attacker has made a lot of progress in his first year in Europe.
After the winter break Aarhus travel to Vejle BK in match day 14 of the Superliga and Links will be hoping the long lay off will not hinder his progress in the league.
In an exclusive interview with FARPost, Links made it clear that his goal is to keep scoring and assisting goals for the team after adapting well to the new environment and new challenge – a goal he is already doing well in keeping.
Links is part of a growing number of South African youngsters making strides in clubs across Europe with the likes of Luther Singh (Pacos Ferreira), Lyle Foster (Vitoria Guimaraes), Khanya Leshabela (Leicester City), Kobamelo Kodisang (SC Braga), Boipelo Mashigo (SpVgg Unterhaching) and many more players all going through the ranks and rising in the systems of clubs across the continent.
