Lebogang Phiri’s first half strike was enough to give Bafana Bafana a 1-0 win over visitors Sudan at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Phiri netted just before the interval for SA’s first three points of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Bafana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ghana away in their first match of the qualifiers, but bounced back in Soweto, though it wasn’t the best of performances from the home side.
Sudan kept Bafana at bay for the better part of the first half, but Phiri eventually found the opener.
Thapelo Morena and Lebogang Mothiba had earlier fluffed their opportunities, but Phiri was clinical.
Bafana’s next match of the qualifiers will be another home clash against Sao Tome in August 2020, before an away trip against the same country the following month.
Bafana were in full voice as they arrived for the match in Orlando (watch below).
