Liverpool go against releasing Salah for World Cup qualifiers

Egypt FA has released a statement saying Liverpool have rejected Mohamed Salah’s call-up for the upcoming Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The statement reveals that ‘The Reds’ have blocked Salah due to Covid-19 concerns, as ‘The Pharaohs’ are on the UK travel red list. This means he would have to quarantine for 10 days on his return.

Egypt is set to play against Angola at home and away to Gabon, who are not on the UK red list.

Meanwhile, Salah is not the only player who will not be released by Liverpool. Roberto Firmino, Fabinho and Alison are also blocked from travelling to Brazil.

The 29-year-old forward once tested positive for the deadly virus back in November 2020 during their Afcon qualifiers.
