Spanish giants Real Madrid have confirmed the acquisition of defender, David Alaba.

Alaba joins Madrid from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

speaking to the media via a virtual press conference, the Austrian international said that: “This is the challenge I was looking for, I can’t wait to put on the jersey and score goals for Real Madrid”.

The 29-year-old footballer was joined by Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations at the press conference, who welcomed him: “Today is a very special day for madridistas and it’s a great honour that you are now part of the great family that is Real Madrid. We wish you all the best, welcome to Real Madrid”.

The 10-time German champion described his first impressions as a Real Madrid player: “It’s a dream come true, joining the biggest club in the world, I’m very proud to be here. I can’t wait to put on the jersey and score goals for Real Madrid. I’m here to be David Alaba. I want to contribute my abilities and I’m going to try to bring my strengths as a player and, on a personal level, to be myself”.

“I received several offers, but for me the only one option was Real Madrid. It’s the biggest club in the world and this is the challenge I was looking for. As soon as possible I want to get to know the team and I’m feeling great from the very first minute. It’s a huge club, known all over the world and I’ve seen pictures of Real Madrid since I was very young, so it’s very special to be here today,” he added.

He also reflected on the jersey number 4 that he will be donning at his new club: “This number was offered to me because there was no other number available and I know what this number means to the club. It’s an honour to wear it and it’s something which really motivates me. This number represents strength and leadership and I want to give it my all.”

Meanwhile, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti also added that: “I know him from my time in Munich, we have an excellent relationship. It’s a pleasure to work with him again”.

“I’m a versatile player, I can play in different positions. It’s up to the coach to decide where I’ll play,” concluded Alaba.
