‘Magents’ mourns ‘the late’ HM Pitje Stadium

From HM Pitje Stadium and just a stone throw away you’ll find the home of former Orlando Pirates captain, Edward ‘Magents’ Motale.

The stadium – named after the first mayor of Mamelodi, Hezekiel Mothibe Pitje – has not seen professional football since 2005. It’s the former home of Mamelodi Sundowns, who now play their home games at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville and Loftus Stadium in Pretoria.

It has been reported that there have been many attempts to refurbish the stadium but money intended for this purpose has been wasted and Motale, speaking to FARPost from his home and the HM Pitje Stadium lights visible in the background, is livid with the state of the HM Pitje Stadium, which he says it’s as good as dead, hence the reference he made that it’s “our late stadium”.

As things stand, it’s not clear when or if the stadium would ever be brought back to life.

But the one thing the locals agree on is that “it’s late”, just as ‘Magents’ alluded.

Perhaps it’s time to admit, and accept, that one of SA’s popular football homes is ruined forever.
