FARPost can confirm that former Orlando Pirates and Free State Stars defender Rooi Mahamutsa is training with Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side Baberwa FC hoping to land a contract.
Despite impressing coach Cavin Johnson during his 4-day trial at Black Leopards, Mahamutsa stopped training with them last month as the club decided against signing him.
The 38-year-old old last played competitive football back in 2017 for Free State Stars and has since found it difficult to secure a deal in South Africa’s top-flight football.
Baberwa are gunning for promotion from the ABC Motsepe League to the GladAfrica Championship. They are currently second on the log standings with 32 points after 17 matches.
The Royals have a number of players with Absa Premiership experience, ex-Kaizer Chiefs strikers Lucky Khune and David Zulu.
Former Bafana Bafana international Lerato Chabangu and ex-Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thapelo Tshilo are also part of the team.
