Bad luck seems to be following Mamelodi Sundowns forward Phakamani Mahlambi after being ruled out of yet another major tournament.
The 22-year-old was named in the 21-man SA U23 national team to take part at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to be played from 8 to 22 November.
But Mahlambi got injured during the Telkom Knockout Cup encounter against Chippa United on Sunday and has been officially ruled out of the Olympic qualifier event.
This is not the first time the former Al Ahly player would miss a major tournament for the SA junior sides.
- In 2016, Mahlambi teared his anterior cruciate ligament and missed out on an opportunity to represent the U23 side at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
- In 2017, he was forced to withdraw from the Amajita U20 World Cup in South Korea, due to a hamstring injury picked up while training with Bidvest Wits.
