Mahrez clarifies scuffle with a fan

Riyad Mahrez has made a clarifying statement regarding a clash with a fan earlier this week.

The Manchester City star and his girlfriend were accosted by a man outside a popular restaurant in London.

According to a story relayed by the Mail, the winger and his girlfriend, Taylor Ward, were ushered to safety after an altercation outside of a popular restaurant in London, prompting security guards to intervene in order to assure the safety of the pair.

They were approached by a man dressed in a black tracksuit as they left the Mayfair restaurant, ‘Novikov’. The pair were quickly escorted by staff members and security guards while the scuffle was diffused. The reason for this unfortunate incident is not yet known, but Mahrez took to social media to clarify the matter.

“Just wanted to address last night’s situation, as I’ve had many concerned messages. The altercation was between some fans and the security, as the situation got out of hand. I was not involved and I am fine! Thanks.”

He has been in great form this season, guiding his club through to their first ever Uefa Champions League final, after some superb performances in City’s 4-1 aggregate win against Paris Saint-Germain which saw him score three crucial goals for the Citizens.

The Algerian has scored 14 goals and assisted a further seven strikes in all competitions this season for City, helping them secure their fourth consecutive Carabao Cup and a soon-to-be fifth Premier League title in the last decade.

On Tuesday night, City were crowned as the 2020/21 Premier League champions after second-placed Manchester United lost 2-1 against Leicester City at Old Trafford. The result meant that despite the outcomes of the remaining games, the Red Devils can’t catch up to the Citizens on points.
