Riyad Mahrez continued playing a vital role for Manchester City who continued their title pursuit with a win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Citizens cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory against the Midland club at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Mahrez has been having a great season so far and his efforts have not gone unnoticed as fans have consistently voted him to be amongst the top three players at the club. He is also in the running for the February Player of the Month award alongside Bernardo Silva and Rodrigo.
Pep Guardiola’s side came into the game with a 12-point lead at the top of the log and extended it to 15 points, although their rivals Manchester United have a game in hand.
Fifteen minutes into the first half, Leander Dendoncker’s own goal opened proceedings in Manchester. Mahrez dribbled past a Wolves defender and fired the ball across goal in search of Raheem Sterling and in an attempt to clear the ball Dendoncker diverted it into his own goal.
In the 61st minute, the visitors equaliser through Conor Coady who lashed onto a Joao Moutihno ball and slotted home. With 10 minutes left, the home side scored three quick goals to pull away from their opponents.
Gabriel Jesus made it 2-1 after 80 minutes before Mahrez made it 3-1 in the 90th minute of the game. Jesus completed his brace in additional time after a Video Assistant Referee decision, 4-1.
Mahrez was voted as the Man of the Match as he continues to be the main man for the Sky Blues.
The result was a big confidence booster for the former champions who travel to their home town rivals Manchester United on Sunday for what is seen as a title decider. United is second on the Premier League table with 50 points from 26 games.
