Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has been nominated for yet another club award in England.
After his impressive displays for the Citizens in February, the 30-year-old has been nominated for the club’s Player of the Month accolade where he faces competition from Bernardo Silva and Spanish midfielder Rodrigo.
The former Leicester City attacker has been in great form during City’s 20-game winning streak. He has assisted crucial winning goals away to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and against West Ham United last weekend.
He also netted a beautiful curler into the far post against Everton as the Manchester side went on to win 3-1 away from home.
His immediate rival, Silva has also been doing well this season, but his energy, goals and assists make him a strong candidate for the award as well.
Apart from his all-round displays, he contributed with four assists and scored two goals in the seven matches he played last month for the log leaders.
Lastly, there is Rodrigo who has continued commanding his place in the middle of the park for Pep Guardiola’s side this season and his performances in February have earned him rave reviews.
He stepped up to take a penalty against Spurs and assisted two goals in the 3-1 win over Swansea in the cup.
In the absence of Kevin De Bruyne through injury, Silva and Mahrez have stepped up for City over the months and their influence has been recognized. Manchester City are looking to win a second league title in three seasons and the duo is expected to continue playing a major role as the season continues.
City hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening as they hope to continue pulling away from the chasing pack on the log table. They currently have 62 points from 26 Premier League games and have a 12-point gap between them and their closest contender Manchester United who are in second spot.
