Gabadinho Mhango’s agent, Mike Makaab believes Orlando Pirates won’t stand on the star player’s way should European offers arise.
The ProSport International boss is smiling from ear to ear about his client’s form since joining the Buccaneers from Bidvest Wits at the beginning of the season.
Mhango is the Absa Premiership leading goal scorer with 14 goals. Makaab said Pirates should prepare themselves for enquiries about his client.
“I think Pirates need to be ready to listen to offers, not me. We have to be grateful to Orlando Pirates for giving him the opportunity, but I’ve got a good relationship with the Chairman (Irvin Khoza).
“We’ve seen what happened recently with (Marshall) Munetsi, back in the days with Vilakazi (Benedict), Mabizela (Old John), etcetera.
“So the Chairman has never stood on the way of players who have shown that they are capable of playing at the right level in Europe and I don’t think he will stand on Mhango’s way if the right offer comes along,” said Makaab who coached Pirates to League success in 1994.
Mhango, the Malawian, was rejected by AmaZulu and Free State Stars when he came to South Africa a few years ago. But now he is on the verge of being the first Malawian to scoop a Golden Boot award in the Premiership.
“Without a doubt I think he can win the Golden Boot. I think he can go on and play in Europe even though is he 25, 26 years. He has matured as a late developer and has shown the attributes of a player who can play at the top level,” said Makaab.
