FARPost.co.za can confirm that Mamelodi Sundowns forward Keletso Makgalwa has been called up to replace Phakamani Mahlambi in the SA U23 squad.

Mahlambi was forced to withdraw from the squad because of an injury.

Makgalwa, Tercious Malepe and Mondli Mpoto on their way to join the team in Egypt.

Ironically, Makgalwa has only just recovered from an ankle injury and was out for months.

In all, the striker missed 11 Downs games… and given the number of U23 players at coach David Notoane’s disposal, this would come as a surprise.

Notoane, meanwhile, only travelled to Egypt with 12 players of the 21 called up for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

SA have been drawn Group B alongside Zambia, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

They will first face Zambia on Saturday (November 9) at the Al Salam Stadium at 17h00.

SA will then lock horns with Ivory Coast on November 12 and Nigeria on 15 November 15, with all matches being played at the same venue.

The top three finishers at the tournament will represent Africa at the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan.

Notoane travelled with only 12 players earlier this week.
