Only a week after his promotion from the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC), midfielder Evidence Makgopa made a dream debut for the Baroka senior team and earned some praise from Coach Dylan Kerr.
The 19-year-old scored Bakgaga’s opening goal during their Nedbank Cup last 16 round against minnows Hungry Lions at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
“The thing with Tower (Evidence Makgopa), the Chairman (Khurishi Mphahlele) called me the other day and I have not had a chance to work with the MDC players but I have watched them a few times and they are good footballers but they are a little bit tiny at the moment, “explained Kerr.
“But I looked at Tower and told the Chairman I am calling him ‘Yaya’ because he reminds me of Yaya Toure. He played in the midfield which he did very well, he did not lack maturity and he is going to get better” added
“He is going to develop but now it means that all the MDC players have to look at that and say I want a piece of that I want to be in that PSL or Nedbank Cup and it gives them a lot more motivation to get better, “added Kerr.
Some of the Baroka players who have come through the MDC ranks include Kagiso Selemela, Bongi Makume and Goodman Mosele.
