Baroka FC forward Evidence Makgopa has been rewarded for his brilliant fine form in the 2020/21 Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign.
Makgopa was nominated for the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season alongside Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Kamogelo Mahlangu of Maritzburg United and TS Galaxy respectively.
The awards nominees were announced on Wednesday.
This is Makgopa’s second season in a row that he has been nominated for the PSL Awards.
“You know man, I think this is a special feeling and I’m very confident that I will bring this one home,” Makgopa told FARPost during the team’s training session in Lebowakgomo on Wednesday.
On his Young Player of the Season nomination, the 20-year-old footballer gave credit to the whole Bakgaga family for supporting him during good and difficult times.
“All thanks to the Baroka team, starting from the technical team to my teammates. I think everyone took part in this one. I am who I am today because of them,” adds the Limpopo-born goal poacher.
The flexible cunning striker has played 26 league games for Matsemela Thoka’s side this season, having found the back of the net on seven occasions with three assists.
The youngster also reacted to his call up to South Africa’s U23 Tokyo Olympics preliminary squad.
“It is a privilege and an honour to have received the national U23 call-up. For now, I just need to work hard and stay focused as always,” he says.
The 2020/21 PSL Awards will be held on Sunday, June 6 at 20:00.
