The ‘Flames’ of Malawi held Burkina Faso to a 0-0 goalless draw at the Kamuzu Stadium in Malawi in a 2021 AFCON qualifier.
The draw, however, dented Malawi’s chances of qualifying for the continental showpiece for the first time in 10 years.
The Southern African nation was hoping to secure all three points in the return game at home after losing 3-1 away in Burkina Faso last week Thursday. )
This was the 6th meeting between the two countries and the ‘Stallions’ of Burkina Faso have dominated the tie having won five of the 6 ties – the other one being a draw.
Burkina Faso sit top of the group with 8 points from the first 4 games while Malawi now sit in third place with 4 points. The ‘Flames’ will be hoping to defeat Uganda and South Sudan in the last two matches in the qualifiers while hoping for the ‘Cranes’ of Uganda who sit second to drop points against Burkina Faso as well.
In the other group game South Sudan stunned Uganda 1-0 at home to earn their first 3 points of the qualification campaign.
